USA was like that for past 100 years. Many times Protectionist bills were passed and many times they were relaxed in past. There will be impacts but it will not bring down the country just because they block a few thousand H1bs. If USA needs to go down there should be some other alternative country should come up relative to that level. India and china have a potential but nowhere near to that for now as they so much dependent on USA and dollar.

Trust me. I was under the impression that it will be 3-4 years before I see green, but the reality is almost true for me now. Similarly, EB3 folks would get some news by next year. Who knows, the government will change and we have seen how keenly Obama wants a change ;). May be recapturing visas provision will be considered next year and everyone until 2006(EB3) may see some green. We never know. It's all magic and lets hope for the best. :D

What do you mean by some tamilians killed, almost 10 thousand people killed in 2 months.
Personally i don't believe 2000 terrorists could hold hostages of 3 or 4 lakh people for 2 years.

I agree with what you said except I would add those past mid 2004 instead of 2005 as hopeless situation in eb2 india. I dont think the Eb2 India will ever move past March/april 2004. Infact with every visa bulletin the EB2 india dates will start moving backward to 2003-2002. One silver lining is Eb3 to eb2 porting will be completely useless. It now takes atleast 6 monts for perm to clear( this is the best case), EB2 is almost impossible to get, if you take a risk and apply in eb2 almost gaurenteed for audit. atleast now we have a clear picture of how many decades(no pun intended) it takes for eb2 and eb3 India to get there green card. My guess is obama\durbin\grassley are figuring out how to kick us out. I remember one of the tactics that the conservatives proposed for kicking out the illegals was to make it difficult for illegals to get employed by imposing heavy fines on employers for hiring illegals. Obama durbin and the democrats are using the same tactics with just a minor difference, instead of illegals they (obama\durbin et al) are going after legals by issuing RFE on EVL even for 485 etc etc etc. Basically they want to haress and make us so dejected that we will leave US and they can keep our social security taxes for wealth redistribution. most of us (atleast the people who graduated out of US universities) gave the prime part of our lives for this country, now we are being treated like we are not even humans. Language is a very hot boiled subject. We have to be a bit practical about what makes it work. Anti-hindi agitations have other roots as well. Understanding Dravidian history needs an open mind. Same is the case with everything about India.
IMO, India is not formed with a single ethnic group colonizing almost empty land and forming a nation based on some principles and later vast immigration followed by years on assimilation based on melting pot concept. It is more of an idea that is formed politically. All 4 south Indian states having a vast culture being ordered to use one language perhaps backfired fueled by resentment against upper castism that existed in Congress during that time.
Again, it is not either supporting or criticizing any event. That is what happened. We have all Hindi movies being super hit in Chennai. Once can walk in any street in Chennai and transact in English. I find many auto-drivers or even common man,go out of way to help when I speak in English in Chennai. So, please dont stereotype,
Coming back to the point, if we had gone for Hindi as a national and sole business language, (I dont like insisting any thing in a democracy), we would have perhaps missed IT/BPO wave and most of us will not be here in this forum.

If you're submitting fingerprints for yourself and your spouse, make sure you have certified funds of $18 (I believe that's the correct amount, but I might be wrong) PER PERSON, i.e., $36 for two people. In the instructions they just say "$18 for the background check" and give you a form to list yourself and any other adults in your family. I had to call and confirm that it's $18 a person.
They have a backlog of these background checks now; in the instructions it says the process takes up to 8 weeks, while nowadays it's up to 3 months and sometimes even longer.
It might take about a year for the Canadian Consulate to process your first batch of documents. In my case, it took 11 months. Then they notified us that our interviews were waived. In the same letter they requested the following docs:
updated letters of experience from my current employer;
updated financial docs (tax returns, pay stubs, W2's, and bank funds confirmation);
updated FBI certificates.
It doesn't say anywhere in the instructions that your fingerprint cards are only good for 1 year. WOW... what a logic... what does Indian Govt. has to do with this money when this is taken out of my pay cheque.
When I take this money back to India I probably would end up paying some taxes on it... not sure what the logic is behind this... (again I do not undertsand the full details behind it).
I think this is a requirement from US government that countries that need a SSA agreement with US needs to have a Social Security system.
Asking our SSA and Medicare back is a good strategy which will benefit us one way or other.
1. We will have an option of claiming our money back if we decide to return.
2. US gov will be forced to come up with a solution for our eternal wait for GC as US cannot afford to lose so much money from SS and Medicare funds.

Is there certain minimum "safe" numbers of days one has to stay with the sponsoring company after getting the EB Green Card.
In my case I have been working with my employer since Sept-2001 (almost 7 years). My GC labor was started in Dec 485 filed in May and GC approved June 24, 2008.
I was in the middle of changing jobs using AC21 just before my GC got approved, hence this urgency. How soon can I join some my new job ?

But question is " what is the meaning of it?"
The tables what are published in bulletin are meant for "Visa number availability".
So numbers (28.6% divided by 5 per each preference-country) are meant for USCIS to process and assign visa numbers till that limit reached.

The rest will get their physical green cards next year though their files have been assigned numbers (Pre-adjudicated.) this year.
Above mentioned explanation is the real meaning of this bullshit.

how does $2000000000 PER YEAR sound (200k * 10k) assume there are 200k who are waiting with little hope of visa movement and we have to return to our countries... every year we provide $2,000,000,000 to SSA and Medicare..some of us are waiting for 10-12 years..that is a bunch of money we are collectively losing. I am sure that number is larger if we analyze the real impact. Effectively we are getting a ~10-12% haircut, followed by a 25-30% 'hajamat' (haircut in my language) in terms of taxes :)
Anti's and lawmaker should know that we are contributing a ton of money...besides paying taxes and spending money..
Lets start writing to authorities about SSA money. This is the best time to ask for it because we are in a recession. They won't be able to make a decision but may remove country quota.

1] To date there are 60K EB2I and another 60K EB3I I-485 applictaions pending.
2] 3.2K visas were available for EB2I for FY2009.
Assuming 3.2K visas are available every year from now on, it will take 60/3.2=18.75 years for all EB2I applicants upto today to be granted GC.

Can I ask a question - tangential, maybe, but not by much. Why do Tamils have such a problem assimilating? Why don't they learn the local language and respect the local culture when they immigrate? Their motto seems to be "In Rome, be a Raman".
And the opposite is true when people speaking other languages settle in Tamil majority areas - they are, dare I say, forced to integrate, because that is the only way one can manage to live on a day-to-day basis. Would Tamils ever allow a non-Tamil minority to gain even a tiny foothold in their areas where the Tamil writ would not run? I doubt it.
Note that I am a firm believer of learning and respecting the local culture and integration. One does have a 'right' to propagate one's own language and culture, but they lose that right substantially when they emigrate to an alien land - whether it is within the same country or not.
To extend the logic, when we (mostly people of Indian origin in this group, I would assume) immigrate to the US, while we may try to conserve our heritage in private, we cannot impose it on the locals. That is when you end up creating ill-will against immigrants among the native population. America has been a great melting-pot, and has had great success assimilating great waves of immigrants from various countries including Italy, Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany etc, and the reason it succeeded was that in a couple of generations, there was total integration into the American culture. We owe it to our adopted country to do the same.
Don't bring this flavor to the discussions. Do you know 25% of population in Tamilnadu are telugu speaking people.

To extend the logic, when we (mostly people of Indian origin in this group, I would assume) immigrate to the US, while we may try to conserve our heritage in private, we cannot impose it on the locals. That is when you end up creating ill-will against immigrants among the native population. America has been a great melting-pot, and has had great success assimilating great waves of immigrants from various countries including Italy, Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany etc, and the reason it succeeded was that in a couple of generations, there was total integration into the American culture. We owe it to our adopted country to do the same.
