One thing to realise is that direct point to point flights will take a while, and even then there is no guarantee that you will want to fly it because it may not be economical or convienient.
And the absence of point-to-point flights has more to do with the airlines following a hub and spoke model than with any government restrictions. Point to point flights were identified as a core part of Boeing's product strategy only recently. The situation should improve over the next few years as airlines take delivery of new models, but until then we are stuck with the hub and spoke arrangement.

I am curious to know what USCIS actually does when they adjudicate adjustment of status cases. I know a security/name check is done when they have your fingerprints but what else? Do they use your social security number to look at your credit history or do they contact the IRS for transcripts of your tax returns etc, how do they verify information on your employer etc etc? Does anyone know what procedures/actions USCIS takes when adjudicating cases? Thanks...:confused:

Dear Sirs/Madams,
Good morning!! With reference to your previous e mail talking about "living in US for 5 years, pay taxes and get a green card". Also, " living in US for 10 years get a citizenship". It reminds me that a few days ago, from the other forum, I see someone talking about the bill "HR264", there is several items in this bill. However, there is only one section in this bill mentioned about "granting green card to people who have stayed in US for 5 years or more". I do believe the chance to pass this bill is very very small because right now the economic recession is so deep that no one knows when it will be recovered.
Also, I know some people who have won the diversity visa lottery and get the immigrant visa to US to be the permanent resident and then stayed in US for another 5 years and get the citizenship.
But some people (for example like my situation) who have stayed in US and fully paid foreign student tuition fees as a foreign student for 10 years (6 years in several degrees then graduate and then back home and then come back to US to study another advanced degree for 4 years and total 10 years as foreign student) still cannot get the green card. After I finish my doctorate degree, I got a company sponsored me the H-1B visa but the quota is full and I pack all things back to my home country until now. So I just wonder when will "granting green card to people who have stayed in US for 5 years"and whether it will be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder whether this 5 years only for people who have worked here for 5 years in
H-1B visa or not?????????

As someone here is saying, following a GC step before Citizenship makes BS to me. You have done whats needed to be a citizen (dont go by the book, doesnt even appear there is one). They have delayed it for no fault of applicants. So this is the way to correct it.
Lets say I am 10th grade student who invented a cure for cancer. Will you oppose if MIT gives me a hon. Doctorate. That may be an extreme example but what we are asking for is something much smaller and well-deserved. After 10-15 years, the only rule should be to look at the paystubs and criminal record. Not which company you worked for or how much you were **ed by X employer. The case must just be yours independent on any employer. PERIOD.
Current economic situation.. SHOW how you can contribute. There is something called timing,. so THIS is the timing to ask for Citizenship so that you can BUY HOUSES AND START COMPANIES.. and thats how you help America to come out of this.

Sorry to hear that. Hope that will not effect your I-485 application processing.
For me, I have not seen any status change to my 140. After a series of LUDs to both 485 and 140 at last today I see my 485 status has changed. It says RFE sent. Campaigns are good. But to solve this problem we have to go back to the basics of human nature, specifically how or what motivates politicians -
1. Votes
2. Money, Fame, Power
3. Good publicity or fear of bad publicity
We can not give #1 or #2 to the politicians. So our only option is #3. This was the reason why the flower campaign had worked, they feared bad pubilicity.
Again, they will not move even a single inch unless there is some motivation and as I said above our only option is #3.
And for doing #3, the community must cooperate.
If you have noticed, IV has done various campaigns in the past, though results are not guaranteed, enough publicity and buzz has been created and now we have more people uniting.
It takes time for big things to happen.
Mountains can be moved only by motivation, in fact #1 and #2 can never move mountains.
in 1970s, America opened up green cards to doctors, engineers and chartered accountants from India. A lot of doctors migrated that time and after a while there was heavy resistance from local people but govt cannot stop people from coming, so they implemented harsh rules to appease locals. One such rule was, even if you are a professional - you cannot take a job offer without going through the employment exchange. And in the employment exchange the job they give does not necessarily be the job that you can do. This discouraged new people and many people went back though they had green cards because they did not want to ruin their careers. Everything was good till you land here and no one told u about this situation. People never realised it till it hit them hard and as usual our community is scared to rise and no unity and no one speaks the truth, everyone just painting a rosy picture that they are doing great.
So, I would only say "Don't look at the result", just keep doing the effort. Try to build trust among the community. In fact you will be surprised to see that it is easier talking to the govt to help you rather than talking to the many unmotivated people who want benefit but are not motivated to do something about it. Keep those people in mind and do somehing to change their minds and set an example.

Jan 18: received a call from the consulate, said the petition number on the application is incorrect, and I need to resubmit the approval notice with fresh DS 156/157 at the Bangalore VFS drop box.
Has anyone else been through the same situation?
I checked a copy of the original DS-156/157, and there was no place to enter receipt number. The only place I could see was where the VFS pre-screening guys enter this number manually (first page DS 156 top right corner).
If this is due to their mistake, I will be very angry and will convey this to the consulate general.

This is true. Lingo customer service is bad. Now I am stuck with them for 2 years. Rep was rude. Talked to the supervisor. Even he was rude. Asked him to pass me on to his manager. He refused to directly transfer to his manager.
I am even thinking of paying $100 cancellation fee and get off their service.
I am happy that Vonage came up with a good plan.

Well suppose they reject your 485 for lack of Initial Evidence then you are in some trouble. The people who applied prior to new Memo was passed had there applications receipted even without EVL. What will happen after the Memo is passed ...can't say. I think EVL is considered Initial Evidence. Thats my guess.
If that's true, I hope they also accept the missing inital evidence, that is sent later, as long as the A# is provided.

The OP is great. He has created a new id to discuss L1 fraud. Will he be creating one id per issue... recapture, H1B abuse, outsourcing, backlogs?? wow!!!
Not sure why he wants his/ her identity covered up. This shows how good some of us are in trying to make noises in the dark and not doing anything about issues in hand.
In all, I still don't understand why L1Bs cannot work at Client site. I am sure that the L1 petitions specifically ask for Client site / work location. If Client site address is mentioned, the USCIS does approve the petition. If it is against law, they will not approve the petition. I know this for a fact since some of my friends are on L1.
Regarding my identity cover up... I have mentioned couple of times abt the seriouness of the situation as the other party is a multi billion dollar organisation, second please add all the reasons why ICE/USCIS/DOL provides anonymity and whitsle bowler protection to people who brings these kind of violations to their notice.
Regarding working at client site... Yes they do get approved for working at client sites BUT with the condition that they would be working directly under the suprevision of their managers and NOT the client managers (they don't qualify for consulting assignments). Also these L-1B visas are approved for working on speciality skills NOT on common technical skills (like java/.net/DBs/Prod Support etc). Next time read your friends L-1B petition carefully and you could find all these details over there.. also verify the L1 reform act of 2004 (published in this thread).
Regarding retrogression... I agree that L-1B visas are not impacting the same much and also I think if someone in L-1A LEGALLY qualifies for EB-1 there is nothing wrong in getting the GC, If we think thats not appropriate then we should bring this upto the law makers and get it rectified BUT fake EB1s should be notified to authorities.
We are fighting against a fraudulant activity by which our jobs (and hence our GCs) are jeopardized and its not a fight against fellow immigrant BUT a fight against the greed of these corporates to make money even by committing such fraudulant activities.. hope this clears the doubt.
