Please keep writing. As many posters already pointed out - economy is getting worse and changing job may become a necessity to many of us. We cannot afford to jeopardize our green card process - if our old employer withdraws I140. Our only way is to raise and get enough attention to this issue so something is done quickly before it becomes a norm.

Take your I 485 application. There is a received date column and Notice date column.
Date received is the date they received your application,Notice date is the date they entered your application was entered into their system.
So, if someone with priority date of 08MAY2006 (EB2), but with a notice date of Aug 30 2007 will get the green card earlier than someone with priority date of 20April2006 (Eb2) with a notice date of Sept 15.

A simple calc to find out how much EB3-EB2 porting going on as of today:
If you look at Demand data released last month by DOS, It lists
Prior to January 1, 2007 , EB2- I pending : 13,200
In my opinion Demand data includes EB3- EB2 porting as well since Demand data reflects overall demand for one category.
Now if you look at inventory data released on Jan 5 ,2011 ,
EB2 India Pending Prior to Jan1st 2007 : 13,516
But if you exclude all the data prior to May = 13,516 - 1,110 - 103 - 133 - 74-108 = ~ 12K
EB2 I demand from the inventory btwn May - Dec 06 = 12K
But Demand data says EB2-I demand is 13,200
Diff : 13,200 - 12K = 1200 ( This number has to be porting)
We know EB2 - I dates have not moved since Oct ,2010 .
So India regular quota for the last six months : 2800/2 = 1400 .
Since dates have not moved, I am assuming 1400 should also be considered towards porting.
so my conclusion is so far 1200 + 1400 = 2600 porting already took place. (though only 1400 really got GC)
EB3 Porting could use up to 8K though, and new filing could be 2K
and EB2 I/C pre-07/2007 still have about 34K at the beginning of oct/2010
So it is even at most...

From a practical point of view, given the situation today, getting doors open for citizenship looks remote: True.
However, in a land of immigrants, We The Legal, can stress a case for fairness. Just because we were born in a certain country and were classified by the law, the lawyer and the employer, sometimes unfairly, to be in a certain category, does not mean that we'll get into mainstream 15 years after others.

(1) Call Full Committee and Local Lawmakers.
(2) Send Emails
(3) Send Letter And/Or Posters
These tasks are in priority order becasue we have short time and later one can take more time. So lets call which is real time. Emails are may be 1-2 days delay . And Letter and posters are 7-10 days delay.
Please call ASAP.

In my 10 year stay in the US, I have traveled through UK only once and I had promised to myself I will never fly through UK again. Apart from the Transit visa hassel, they do not allow you to carry a laptop in addition to your carry-on. Even if the airline allows you to carry laptop in addition to a carry-on, the obnoxious UK airport authority will force you to pack your laptop inside your carry-on.
Boycott UK!!
