As I see it, hiring a lawyer is still cheaper than losing 20K per year because you are working for a exploitative consulting company. But if the company is treating you well, there is no reason to leave.
I never understood this "exploitation thing". This is America...
If someone is exploiting we all have a choice. We can change employers; go back home, etc.
It may not be a totally open market but it is not like you have handcuffs around you. This type of talk of exploiting, slavery only hurts everyones cause.

All the suggestions are good but think who gets to influence USCIS more ? It is the EMPLOYERS.
Action Items are:
1. We let our employers know the current issue
2. Notify AILA , MEDIA that we are boycotting work or taking leave for a day or a whole week. This is the same day everyone takes leave and notifies the employer that they should do something

I visited the PA DMV yesterday to renew my driving licence based on my pending I-485. With all the valid documents like EAD, I-485, SSN card, I-94 etc. They refused to renew it saying that they have a new pilot program implemented called SAVE and need to get clearence from that, it will take upto 30 days. Anybody else gone throgh this proces?? Day by day more hurdles to pass...what a life, why dont they keep their systems uptodate or provide some temp permit as long as their check is pending. I am frustated with all this GC process, name check, DL SAVE system check etc..Why dont they implement just one check and give approval to everything.. atleast make it less time consuming.

Yes, 4 of my frineds in Colorado went through the same process called the "SAVED". I was the one who started this thread to find out if other states have already started using SAVE and it seems other states are reluctant to use it.
Ironically, the DMV in Colorado got sued last week regarding this new process because US citizens were badly affected by this. Please read the article below.

Going back might be a good call. But the truth is, no matter how much money you got, how secured you are, the bottom-line is that the call has to come from the individual.
I will share my concern. I was 23 when I moved here and I already spent 10 years of prime life here in this country. After finishing my college, I worked in India for a year and half, and as any young adult I grew up thinking one day, I will change the way life operates in India. There is a system which operates India. It is powerful, normal human like you and I cannot overcome the system. People like Gandhi could, they are willing to sacrifice them self for the best of others. Or you could if you are like our current politicians who know how to work the system. People like lallu, Jaya, Karunanidhi, Naidu etc, they grew up as a part of the system. For them even when killing someone, they might not feel the remorse. But you and I cannot even bribe without feeling bad, which is good. But the question is how long can you sustain that? I am not 23 anymore; Now, I know what responsibility is all about. I have 2 kids; I don’t know whether I am hard enough to fight the system at this current stage of my life.
There is a famous quote, which states that there is a breaking point for every human, once we are pushed beyond that point, your action does not originate from your brain. In other words you will become part of the system.
For me this is the main concern. When I talk to people here who wants to go back, they say that they will buy a house in some close community and they will live a happy life inside. For me that’s a fools dream. You cannot shut off from others, may be for a month or two, soon you have to face the real world.
So the answer for your question lie in this question. How are you going to handle the system in India? I do not believe that things will change. May be in 25 years; Not anytime soon. So until then you have to live a life where in you have to adjust to the system.
I do not have an answer to the question. How will I manage the day to day life? If you know the answer let me know

It will be intersting to see how Indian Economy will flare, which is essantially driven by Outsourcing, which will take the greatest hit.
Remember Indian Economy's engine is outsourcing, once it starts to see the $ exchange pressure, forget about people coming to US, think of what will happen to standard of lving in Inida.
Can India still maintain the new glow with dollar coming down , I doubt as the Govt of India has not made any big steps to make permanent changes to infrastructure set up.

I am planning to send a letter to President, First Lady, DOS chief besides other Govt. rep. Anyone has the addresses?
I am in CP and I am writing to them to allow CP filers who are already working here in the US to file for AOS (even if the PD is not current) anticipating a very long delay for EB3 I. That way we could get atleast the minimal benefits like EAD, AP.
If any CP filers from EB3 I wanna join me, more than welcome!

This is probably all countries put together. Have we had any luck with getting more details from the senators or congressmen?

How do you think the passage of the DREAM ACT could impact our situation ? If they pass this, they would allay a sizeable portion of illegal immigrants to get amnesty through their children (few millions). I am just wondering whether the illegal alien supporters would lose steam to support CIR after this ? Ironically, they would get a sizeable amnesty, overhelm USCIS with millions of applicants and probably make the passage of a CIR bill more distant. I can't think of something less advantageous to us than this. I hope I am totally wrong.
What do you guys think ?

The ensuing two-year term, many believe, may be ripe for some sort of comprehensive immigration reform. President George W. Bush has been espousing all along the cause for comprehensive reform in this area. Most people recognize that there are immigration problems and governmental delays that exist. Most also believe that the system needs to be changed for the better. But just how this should be accomplished is not so easily agreed upon, and so it is a hot-button issue. Many of the hardliners, who took a strong anti-immigration position, lost the recent elections. But there are some who took this stance and won. It also is widely believed that many of the newly elected Democrats expressed anti-immigrant sentiments in their campaigns. Achieving any strong pro-immigration measures may prove to be more daunting than originally was anticipated; certainly more than many hoped it would be. Needless to say, we can expect 2007 to mark the beginning of a time for change and flux in the arena of U.S. immigration law. There is a possibility the DREAM Act could be passed, allowing the children of undocumented immigrants (who complete their high school educations in the United States) to obtain conditional "green card" status if they enroll in college or join the U.S. armed services. Both the Democratic and Republican parties seem inclined to help children. There are individuals, however, who are not willing to give any benefits to children of undocumented immigrants. No matter whether you are in EB2 or EB3, if you lose job then you are going back to stone age. So we are all in the same boat. The only hope is to fix the leak.

What we are talking here is to reduce the EB3I backlog atleast a little bit...may be a year or two behind EB2

( just FYI, like many other EB3 guys, I am very much eligible to apply in EB2 ) I am paying the price now::((( Ofcourse who would have dreamt in 2003 that it would be so bad....and it hurts to see people who have applied at later stages cruise by while we wait watchig the VISA bulletins month after month..and now when I want to port the econom is so bad...everyone is being audited....so dropped that idea as well

Are they not supposed to make sure that they have enough senators on their side to pass this bill. Whatever we have won till this point is due to the efforts of core team and people who come to this website using media/campaigns. I have not seen results of any lobbying efforts by this lobbying firm. Am I wrong somewhere ?

Unconfirmed sources indicate that the Senate may table this bill earlier than expected. Since there is the nightmarish Sensenbrenner border protection bill that will come up with the comprehensive immigration reform legislation, it appears that the pro-immigration forces may have to energize their forces and start working on the critical immigration legislation.

I respect all the holidays and I would like to celebrate with you guys, but what is the meaning of Diwali?
Diwali (or Deepawali) literally means the festival of lights. Traditionally it has symbolized the arrival of Ram (a Hindu mythological figure often perceived as God) back to his kingdom after completing a 14 yr exile.
However other religions in India (notably Jainism and Sikhism) have different reasons for celebrating the same day.
Notwithstanding the different reasons it is commonly perceived as a festival of lights and of the victory of good over evil.
