Well, last year i was in a similar situation too ,actually worse than yours.My project ended in February '08.Then i went to India for 4 months. After i got back , my employer refused to pay for my health inssurance.I opted for COBRA and was paying 1200$ for my family , with my husband and child listed as dependants.I attended several interviews,while I was expecting my second child . Though its against the law, many were skeptical in employing me as a consultant during this time. I was very lucky to get a full time offer using my EAD, where my health coverage started after 60 days .All this time, without a project , i was paying through my nose for the health insurance using COBRA.
Ofcourse, i never bothered to inform my employer about my new employement.(Do i need to??)One fine day, i get an update on my H1 application , that the case has been reopened for review , and i get to know through my employer that he has CANCELLED my H1(got a 3 year extension based an approved I140).He did not give me chance to transfer it, inspite of me working rather slogging for 4 years , during which he shamelessly took the overtime money i earned as part of the billing.Though, i feel cheated,used etc etc.... but i did nothing. What could i have done?
All through my journey in this GC process, i have had bitter experiences with desi employers.Though i've been in this country for 10 long years, i am still sitting waiting for my GC with the PD of Dec '05!! The previous employer, said he was filing my GC under EB2 but actually used EB3. And he also was willing to 'sell me my labor' for 12k!!!!! when i requested for retaining the PD. I coulddo nothing..
I am not writing all this to vent my anger but to make you think that there could be other worse things happening to us.
Also can somebody educate me on the 'stimulus' ,please?(pardon my ignorance)

I'm went to the infopass website to make an appointment for interim EAD; I chose the "Washington Field Office" since I live in the DC Metro area. There are no appointments available in Aug and Sep!

Hey Guys,
When applying for CP the consulate we can apply to...does it have to be only the one in your home country (American Embassy in Chennai) or can it be the one in the country of last residence.
I have studied and lived in Canada for 3 years before coming to US. I am wondering if i can choose American Embassy in Montreal as my consulate post (country of last residence) or is my option just the consulate post in country of birth

My priority date Sept 5, 2006 is almost current and I am switching job to another company but similar job duties. From Sr. Systems Analyst to Sr. Business Systems Analyst. Should I file the AC21 now or wait till the RFE? If I wait and they approve my 485 without an RFE, then should I file AC21 at all?

FYI majority of Desi companies follow the rules as stipulated by US laws. There definitely are abuses in any law. Do you think all wallstreet firms played by rules in this financial mess.
If there are abuses that should be enforced. No doubt about it.
Please stop generalizing from these incidents. There are good majority of IV folks who work for good consulting companies.

Impressive to see that this thread jumped from discussing Rahman Oscar award accomplishment to terrorism.
Anyway, Rahman has come a long way from being unknown composer in his first move 'Roja' to competing in gloabl arena of Academy Awards.
It has to be a movie produced by American production house to compete in wide variety of categories. Competing from foreign country reduces the exposure.
It would be wrong to say that Rahman's talent was showcased in slumdog millionaire coz he has obvioulsy done rich material even before, but this time the timing was perfect and he was at the right time in the right place. I would like to see his doing background score for good hollywood movie. The fusion would be interesting.

Trust me my friend, I have seen it happen all the time, from large Telecom firm to Govt., its always there, most of the consultants just doesn't come to know about it, but the cut for the managers is there in some form, almost always. Why do each manager has a specific vendor through whom they want to hire most of the time? What else is the reason for the client to pay the consulting company $180/hr but they won't give 'valueablehurdle' anything more than $50-60/hr?
On a different note, now that NSG approved the waiver, most desi uncles, some of them are also owners of desi consulting companies will claim that they are the father of Nuclear deal. These bastards (sorry for my french) always oppose any GC fix and they tell their favorite congressman/senator (each has atleast one favorite politician for whom they do fund raisers) that gc backlog is not an important issue for the community. India Abroad, Times of India, rediff and other desi portals/newspapers will write 'Oliver North' style stories about these desi uncles knowing well that companies like GE etc put their weight behind the deal as it will create commerce to commerce over $20 billion/yr. But desi uncles/orgs will not stop claiming to be the father of nuclear deal. The fact is, most of these desi uncles made noise not because they wanted to do something for their country of birth, they are doing it because they think that if the nuclear deal passes, they can play middle man for US companies to sell the technology/material to Indian companies/govt. Most of the so called 'united voice of Indian-Americans on the Hill' organization's goal is to make big bucks by playing 'middle man' for companies wanting to sell technology to India. And as always, just as 'valuablehurdle''s client (paying $180/hr) Indian govt. will pay double the cost. Over the years it has been observed that whenever visa bulletin comes out a bit late, like between 13-15 of a month, it moves the dates quite a bit forward. The bulletins that come out early in the month, like before 10th day of the month, truly sucks.

Which service center? Guys, is this the normal trend? I guess the processing times webpage is showing ~ 3 months.
It looks like not many people are applying for AP renewals, this is simply my observation based on traffic on this topic in IV.
Nebraska Service Center (paper filing). Applied on March 12 and received approval May 10th.

Oh I forgot to mention.. I reached home at 11 and found several envelopes laying on the floor at my doorsteps..
I received my receipts, FP notice and EAD all at same time.. YAHHHHHOOOOOOOO

In my opinion, the fear that folks that are contributing 50$ will switch to lower sums is unfounded. There is nothing that stops them from stopping their contributions altogether even now.
yes and people do stop...what do you think...the small minority just keeps contributing when they see others not lifting one finger?
and we are not speaking from "fear of what will happen" we are telling you from experience that people who can afford 50/mnth and are willing to do it are tempted to do 20 instead...and do it. why is that so hard to believe? is it not human? i think it is natural for many to think like that. we have 25,000 members, >90% don't do anything for iv. despite that you won't believe that people will contribute less if they can?
if members really want to contribute- use pay pal and give less. the option is there. why the argument over the set up that iv has made...when you have an alternative??? iv needs to send a signal on what we really need from you and we have done that. the rest is up to you...take a choice. just remember- pay pal takes a chunk every time you do small multiple amounts.

Folks, just a hunch but I don't think the bulk of the Dems are against Cornyn's amendment. I think the Dems will trade support for this provision in return for the repubs supporting the AgJobs bill if and when it comes to the Senate floor. No point in giving away a barter chip for nothing.
