Back in 2001/2002/2003 I have seen many friends having to return to India (from the bay area) because they could not get another job. All the desi consulting companies that everyone bashes so often? they are the saviours. They are typically the only ones who hire in those times. All the big companies will have hiring freeze's and massive layoffs.
Its already started in the US (Sprint:4k, Lehman Bros 1300, Motorola 7500+1600, applied-materials 1000) but this is the mere tip of the iceberg.

The rest of the economy (& consumers by extension who are the main drivers of the economy) was ok. This time its widespread, consumers across the board are hit.
The July VB was a huge blessing in disguise for lots and lots of people who will be able to maintain status even if they are jobless for a few months. Back in 2001/2002/2003 the option was to be out-of-status of return home. Many chose the latter. This time they can atleast get a job offer from a desi consulting company and keep looking for some consulting gig.

I got my Wife's and son's passports renewed at NY. I printed the phtos on the computer. My wife's i mailed it(got it back in 1 week). My sons i went to NY. If you go before 11AM, you can collect it back same evening. I did this almost 18 months ago.

The FBI name check is not a side problem that once we finish fighting other problems, let's come back and pick up another problem. This is one of the major obstacles in the GC and Citizenship process which unfortunately is not transparent and there is no data available to tell you when you will pass this obstacle. If the attitude of some of the members in this organization is the delay in FBI name check is not going to happen to them and it is only random and a side problem, think again and watch out for what will be coming your way. This is a Tricky situation.you need Medical leave for your child but 4 months is a bit too long. Pls.contact your Attorney about the consequences of taking 4 Months leave on H1B visa.make sure your HR provides you with all the Paper work that your Attorney might ask to substantiate your leave.

I became father last month.
My new born son is sick and he needs total attention for next 4 months. I have used up all my vacation and planning to apply for medical leave. Pediatrician recommends me getting medical leave and support my wife.
I work in a very big hardware company. I have completed 3.5yrs in H1B so far.f I apply for medical leave, I may get a pay cut (like 20 to 30%). Will I be affected because of this medical leave? Are H1B's allowed to take medical leave (upto 4 months)..

I know sir every one has right to choose whatever they want but info pass only gives you the answer which in online or when u call them its the same thing. and for your information i have filed my application on june 2nd and still not received anything...and it can cause my job....and when i tried to get info pass it does not allow me another city when i put my zip code and all the dates in the next month are taken..........
Did you try the walk-in option. Some offices have walk-in option and they do let you in without a Infopass appointment. And also since you think that your case is so serious , did you try to talk the security person explaining him the situation that you are not able to book an appointment for Infopass and let you in for walk-in appointment.

I got RFE through attorney. It is asking following details
1. Emloyment verification letter with present and intended permanent employer
2. Last two months pay slips
3. "Although your I 140 petitioner indicated in your initial I485 filing that you were employed by company A at that time, your Form G325 indicated that you were employed by company B and you were authorized by B at that time, please explain discrepancy"
I am bit worried about question 3. I worked for company A and labor, I140 applied when I was with A.
But during I485 filing I was with company B and in G325 I mentioned that.
It looks like company A by mistake mentioned that I was still with them.
I called my attorney he said its upto me decide which company I should work for.
But I am not sure company A provides an employment letter for me because I am working for comapny B now.
If B provides employment letter since it is >180 days since I 485 applied, will there be any issues?

I am in a similar situation. I am getting married in July 4th 2007. (What a day to loose my independence) in India. I am planning to come back and file my 485 before July 30th. My spouse is going to endorse her passport and come soon after, but won't be before Aug 15th. I also wanted to know what was the time window after my filing that I could still add my spouse. I have approved I140, PD is Nov 2006.

If USA does that, more people will pay to come to study in USA. Not go to Australia, UK etc to study. So more money to USA. And USA degree holders will be able to use this education and work in USA to improve USA economy. If they go back to their countries, then USA has brain drain.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Is LLC corp employer eligible to do H-1 transfer? I have an American citizen friend who has a LLC corp and work as an independent contractor. Can he file for my H-1 transfer and can I work for him?
His annual income is about 150 to 200K. I think he takes about 100K as salary and rest as company profit.

Some online tax return websites have capabilities of pulling your W2 information from IRS site. I know turbotax does. Print out all those copies and your pay stubs. Send it to IRS with letter stating your problem. Before you do please apply for extension as april 15th is last date for tax return filing.
My wife worked as a consultant for first half of 2008 with a desi employer as an employee (on W-2). After many calls and emails we received W-2 Thursday that has income and taxes of only first two months. Now he says that he showed remaining 4 months as his profit so he can only send 1099. Please advise if I can take any legal action against this employer.
