Agreed that this will throw out all the crappy body shoppers. This is what we need in future not to make it difficult for future h1-b or other people. We should infact support this bill as this will weed out many Indian Body shoppers and benefit everyone.
This is nothing new but most of it is just implementing what is already in low. Thats my take on it.

Anyway, IIRC, in past there have been incidences where VB posted in mumbai Consulate's website actually did not turn out to be true. Couple of years back - after the retrogression - it predicted huge forward movement which 2 days later turned out to be false hope...

I would think IT experience is the same anywhere so taking it to canada should be ok? If not there are plenty of other management jobs there. It might be a new start but in a one year timespan you will be well established.

I think US experience will hold good in canada, at at least in IT. Canadian experience matters for immigrants who directly come from their home countries, never having lived in north america before. The trick is to find a good enough job for your experience level .. what is the point of going there and doing the same kind of job that you were stuck with here ?. You are right on - most of conversations/analysis on RE market in India (especially Hyderabad which I am familiar with) center around how NRI/IT employee money has spurred the prices. its a big urban legend. Majority of these "investments" were with black money - corrupt govt employees, local businessmen, and politicians of all parties, and ultra rich actors. They saw a chance in converting their black money into white and pumped up into RE projects as "investments". I saw a report somewhere which said that these black-money transactions can account for atleast 33% of RE transactions in hyderabad (with another 1/3 coming from companies/FII's and only the other 1/3 from NRI's + local rich professionals like IT employees/doctors/lawyers etc). In the apartment and SF homes market most of the projects are in the mid-way thru completion -with majority of apartment projects scheduled to complete in 2009-11. During that time there will be abundant apartments with not many people living in them - expect to see rental prices go down even more.
Of course these investors would eventually try to cash their assets - and deman vs supply equations change dramatically to drag down prices. In addition to this - the current global economic conditions are bad (to put it very mildly) - the argument that it will not touch India may not be correct. Our economy is a lot smaller than other economies like US/europe and depend a lot on those economies - more financial companies bankruptsies would affect IT companies revenues. Also there were direct investments from some of the failed companies in India - for example Lehman Bros had a investment in one of apartment project in Hyderabad. Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, etc. all have tie ups with RE companies with huge "promised" investments. Now that they themselves are in trouble - dont think that they would venture into indian RE market anymore - this can also potentially drag down prices.
I could be wrong (was saying that this would happen for last one year - it didnt happen so far ;)) - but I think buying an apartment/house in Hyderabad/Bangalore/Chennai now in 2008 as an "investment" is not a great idea. Well ... I could partially agree to your rant. While I understand your point of view it is not justified on your part to generalize all posters into one category. You should have been more specific about what kind of posts (and even posters if you wish) frustrate you.
In my view your words "Get a life" certainly applies to the following set of people (in that particular order):
Those who say they are awaiting their GC to plan their lives (get married, have kids, buy a house etc.) I am married with a kid and bought a house and all I have is a I-140 approval (Not applied for I-485 yet). So what happens if I loose my job? I will make an honest effort to find one and if I fail I'll sell my house and go back to India. I am prepared both mentally and somewhat financially too. As much as I want to live in the USA it is common sense that I always have a solid back up plan to go back if need be.
Those who come here whining about their I-485 getting rejected and don't have a back up plan. Seriously, how many times must you get jacked before you realize that USCIS is not dependable? How the heck can one plan their life around it? One must realize that GC is just a small part of your life and not your life itself. Get your priorities straight.
Those who say that laws are racist. Hilarious! BTW racism is not one way (like the Whites out here want you to think) so beware of what you say unless you don't mind getting sued.
Those who build up their hopes with predictions on the next visa bulletin and go emotionally crazy when the hopes crash with the release of that bulletin. 3) If getting PR or citizenship of a western country is the goal there are many countries which have a fair point based system.
4) Considering the number of fraud's committed by Indian body shoppers and people who use them, i am not surprised USCIS is extra careful when it comes to Indian applications. Anyone who got his wife with no exp with software dev an h1b visa from some cheat in Jersey knows what i am talking bout . My freind got his wife an H1 after showing she knew software testing even though her major was fine arts and all she was good at was web surfing :)
5) have a back up. i came here in 2001 as student and have seen it all. I am on h1b since 2004. i knew we have too many people whose sole aim in life is a American GC. to avoid becoming one of those who check processing dates first thing in morning, i applied for Canadian PR, got it in 8 months and i am not even gonna bother applying for labor, i-140 and all those precious life controlling documents.
Wake up friends, you have options. Don't let your life depend on you application status.

With the attitude towards immigration in this country, i really doubt this bill will pass :(, i really hope it does though, i think the USICS is a strong believer of "sabar ka phal meeta hota hai", translated, the fruit of a long wait is sweet, i just hope the wait is not too long and the fruit rotten

However, the congress returns in September and IV Core will update us on the situation. There is still no reason to believe that this is bill is completely dead, so keep checking IV site and when there is an update from Core, put in your effort AND get your friends involved too.
You can actually start getting your friends in similar situation involved right now. Get them registered and get them to read up on IV in general. The only way we can get any reform is by numbers. I hope you have already joined your state chapter and look forward to your continued presence and contribution to IV.

I am not contradicting you but just guaging the effect on employers. I aggree that if complaints keep pouring in, the equation changes. But as of now, I see only a few employers on that website and they have just been barred for few years

If you look at the ICE's public releases you will see they start investigating a case months before they announce their conclusions. I know in some cases the employers will be able to get away with small fines but we should not let this stop us.

Let us all have a rally to move back to our countries on 4July2008 to symbolically show that we want our Freedom and Independence and never return back.
If all the articles about reverse brain drain we are reading about is true they would do something to solve this GC situation. Otherwise the anti-immigrants will come to see us off while we depart this country and never to return back as H1B's trying to get GC's and live here. This will go into history, 30yrs from now and our grandchildren will read about it. And may be we will get some special pension at our home countries for returning back and helping it to do better.

2. Go there or else, tell your employer, that "Find a way to file my GC, otherwise HASTALA VISTA baybee...".

I would like to share my experience and it may help some people here.
My H1 was sponsored by company A when I was working with them on OPT. I paid $3000 for H1 filing and attorney fees and company A gave me the H1 approval notice only after I signed an agreement that I would work for atleast one year with them.
Afetr 1 month of my H1 approval, I got a better job offer from company B and I got the H1 transferred. I notified my client and company A who threatened to revoke my H1, take me to court etc etc. They also withheld 4 weeks of my pay.
After joining company B, I filed a complaint against company A with DOL that they withheld my salary and also they demanded H1 fees from me. After 2 weeks of that complaint, my salary was deposited into my account and DOL was looking into my complaint about H1 fees. This case finally got resolved last week after about 18 months, when DOL finally persuaded company A to pay $3000 back to me.
I would request everyone who is a victim of these blood sucking employers to
take every possible action against them. There's a very little chance that they would go to court because they are themselves involved in gross irregularities.
Hats off to you. We can clean these bodyshops if everyone follows this path.

Don't bet on this too much. Not being pessimistic, but in a democracy it is not just what is done but who does it and how it is done. Why should Republicans in the outgoing Congress vote again on a bill when their majority status is obsolete now? Do you think democrats will allow this outgoing congress to take the credit? they are politicians too, anything crappy in that bill is going to be the new Congress's (read Democrat's) burden. Already, a bombshell is waiting in the form of a hastily passed by the house_hastily signed by teh President bill: there is a fine print that removes oversight of how money is spent in Iraq (at least some of it). So, there may even be review of hastily passed, pre-election bills. anything more like this is going to give this congress very very bad name and the next congress a really bad headache.
