My prediction was more on the long term like 5-10 years horizon. REITs have lost almost 70% of their values, but that's because asset value has gone down. If you want to gauge the returns look at the dividend yields on REIT which hasn't gone down that much. Besides due to free fall of oil and credit crunch we have deflationary pressure affecting the rents.
I don't think deflation is going to last very long, and sooner than later inflation will come back. and rents will go up. The enormous spending that is on card along with the money printed for bailout will eventually lead to inflation and dollar decline. Though I would rather have a deflation, signs tell me it is going to be inflation, call it my luck I have often been on the wrong side of the table. For USCIS isn't the date received that matters not the date postmarked ? Never heard them honoring postmarked date. I could be wrong though !!!
If its mailed out today, then you are ok. Its the POSTMARKED date that is seen. So even if it reaches there in July, as long as it went OUT today, they will have to accept it under June's batch of applications coz it is postmarked in June (june 29).

July VB Fiasco I-485 Receipting Delays
The USCIS has yet to release the detailed progress report on the receipting delays in terms of the numbers that have yet to be processed for receipting. The only thing people know through various private websites just indicates that there are a plenty of people who are still waiting for filing fee checks cashed or receipt notices received for the cases which were filed as early as July 2, 2007, not to mention any later cases.
We reported earlier that the USCIS had allegedly received total of 800,000 cases for the July VB fiasco cases. There is an unconfirmed report that they have completed the receipting only half way through of the total, meaning approximately 400,000. There are no sources of information to verify or confirm the figures. However, if it is correct, the USCIS has yet to process mountains of receipting workloads ahead and the filers have some additional sleepless nights which they will have to endure for a while. AMEN!

I cannot help but point out a flaw in your case: You say that your technical skills is a common one. Yet you don't seem to have an issue that you have applied in EB2 - exceptional ability / advanced degree. At this time, you are likely holding a H1B status - a speciality occupation visa. Something does not add up now, does it?.
However, I'm with you on wanting to stop L1 visa abuse (and H1 visa abuse as well). There needs to be a more definitive way of knowing L1 visa is being misused to replace US citizens and green-card workers.

Do you what you are talking about? One more term for GOP is a disaster. McCain would do nothing but spending more money on Iraq. There is no policy for John McCain. CADude and others... maybe your efforts are paying off. What I learned in this process is that have faith in your application filing. If everything is fine you'll definitely get the receipts. It may be either next week or in 2 weeks.

1) Calling USCIS is useless...
2) Look for checks for cashed....
3) Keep in touch with our pending group. I gives you support and motivation.

dude you are yet to show data to correlate students graduating correlating with H1 visa numbers. You say that Ms/Yahoo/Goog have no peers in India yet refuse to acknowledge these guys stand on visa status. You claim you have not found any indian with good maths skills but you can not explain the professors in top universities nor can you explain the number of phds there.

My company applied 100 485's . 85 from NSC and 15 from TSC (140 aproval). All NSC people got receipts, some of got FP's also. But TSC people still waiting for checks to be cleared.

Me too in the same boat. I have not received any receipt also i checked today whether the checks has been cahsed or not and they were not cashed yet. I consulted my lawyer and he said initially when he sent the application to nebraska some applications has been transfered to Texas and the process in texas is really really slow. Mine was filed under EB2 category. I dont know whether that makes any difference.

People who meet the conditions above can benefit the US Economy in a long run because...
1)Deficits are going to be high for a long time...in trillions, and if we are allowed to apply for naturalization directly, there is a better chance for us to pay taxes to reduce the burden.
2)If we are asked to leave now, the US is committed to Social Security payments(with the minimum 40 points) even if we are outside.
3)By now, we already have kids who are American citizens... which means that when they become 18, they can always sponsor us as citizens. All that we are asking is for the congress to do the same a few years earlier. It is better we are here in our earning years than when we are in our older years.
If this Bill is introduced in congress, people will listen because...
1)People waiting for 10 years... and done all the right things, no one can simply ignore. Also, there will be a sense of guilt on the US Government to have let the situation deteriorate. They will think of ways to make the transition smoother... remember they created a special green card category for Iraqis since there was a sense of guilt.
2) Whether this passes congress or not, there is a legitimate argument of asking for the congress to rectify the situation. That is the best we can do.
3) We need to give more and more options to the congress. Not everything sticks, but even if one or two get passed, it goes a long way to help all of us.
I personally will contribute bigtime if IV core want to take this up!
Core IV, We are waiting for you to take it up. We will support.

filing 485 doesnt mean they will give GC in the next few days .....Do you think how many people left from 2002 ...( the number of labors doesnt equal to the number of Genuine applicants ...most of those labors are hanging because desi employs want to sell them ) ...
