Does any of you trade in Indian shares? If so, did you have to open the PIS NRE account to do trading in Indian shares ? I heard that NRI from USA can not use the normal demat account to do the trading in secondary market in India.

No matter which person we will go with, I think that we need to verify person's story before congress testimony. Not that I do not trust people, but we need to make sure that every detail is accurate; otherwise we risk of being called "liars" by the numbersusa. If we could obtain any documented proof of achievements and demonstrate the documentation to the congress, which will carry some additional weight...
Just my 2 cents.

I feel sorry for the people who live in slums of dharavi but not for people who should not have been in the US in the first place (based on their education) and are now finding ways to get ahead of the legit EB2 candidates by buying masters degrees.
They are NOT buying MS, they are inquiring where the fees are cheaper. If this is buying MS, even you *bought* your Masters (and every other degree) unless you are from the 1% who get full scholarship (you would definitely have been in EB1 had you been in that layer).

The text originally Posted by GoneSouth was great and we need more like this one. I feel that the stories should appeal more to the heart and than being heavy on technicalities. People would respond more when they see american values being abused than when they read how the green card process actually works. I wish I had the writing skills that many of the members have, but these are some of the things i would write about if I could write one.
1. The lack of freedom for legal immigrants. The country that values freedom so much and went to war for it would certainly like to address the issue for its own future citizens/residents.
2. The desperation and frustration of the highly skilled and educated immigrants.
3. The affects of the immigration process on the spouses of immigrants (boredom, anxiety, lack of financial independence, waste of their degrees etc.) and affects on marriages.
4. America no longer being a magnet for the bright and the smartest. (only one IIT ian graduate supposedly took up a job in the US, i read somewhere). How the future Vinod Khosla-s and Pramod Haque's are rotting in the current immigration system.
5. Link the current EB immigration system to slavery.
6. A picture speaks a thousand words, so maybe some photographs or comics might help (like chained IT workers, spouses whose degrees are wasted etc.)
7. I see a lot of nice quotes in some of the texts. Maybe it is nice to collect some of the nice quotes and publish them somewhere.
Maybe its best to use our contacts in our home countries to get some stories printed in leading newspapers/publications. In this flat world, the stories would float around and reach a wider audience.
my few cents.
regards,
-ks.

From Immigration Fight Goes On Without Some Troops (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=171495&postcount=1126) By June Kronholz | Wall Street Journal, September 20, 2007
With a comprehensive immigration bill unlikely to be revived in this Congress, supporters now are trying to pass smaller pieces of the original.
Third could be a business-backed measure that vastly increases the number of visas available to highly skilled workers.
Meanwhile, NumbersUSA, which helped kill the overhaul bill in June, is at it again. Members of the grass-roots group flooded Senate offices with faxed letters of opposition to the bill last spring. Now, its urging members to call their senators, and offers talking points should they be connected. Among them: Illegal immigrants would get in-state tuition, while out-of-state citizens dont.

I contributed $150.00. Is there a way how far behind we are from $100K. Thanks folks I appreciate the initiative taken by the hi-tech legal immigration community.
I was wondering if we can involve http://www.competeamerica.org they are also fighting for our cause.

Our attorney said one can apply for a renewal even from a different country, the clause that one has to be physically present in US is only for the initial I485 and AP application.
I have applied for AP renewal on June 23rd and am traveling next month to India for 2 months will be back before my current AP expires i.e. Oct 10th. My attorney actually asked me to apply for renewal before I leave for India.
Thanks for sharing the information.

Shirish has a very valid point. I think it should be six months after I-485 application as pointed in AC21.
[QUOTE=shirish;147335]I think the 6 months period should be counted fron the RD on the RN for you I-485, else AC21 and this " propoganda" contadict each other.
If you get your GC with in 6months from the RD then stay untill you finish 6 months (this is very unlikely to happen as it takes lot more than 6 months)
If you get the GC after 6 months i think you are fine.

Which service center processed your I-140 ? For Eb2 cases, USCIS ( especially NSC) doesn't accept a combination of degree and experience. They require a single 4 year degree.
You should not completely give up on this. Get a good lawyer, a good education evaluator and try to save the case.

hey aadimanav,
If the legislations dont change - my estimate would be even more than
7 years (come on they already have 500k pending app before this 300k
July2nd boom).
What Franklin said very logical - very realistic !
Thanks,
Diptam

[QUOTE=gc_in_30_yrs]Can we get the copy of I-140 Approval Notice under the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA)? If so, please advise the way to do it.

Is itn't surprising? I got a letter from USCIS today! 2 1/2 months later!
It is said in the letter that this request is very complicated one, so it may take some time to work on. Once they get a handle on what to do about my request, they will start working on it. And on top of that, it is in a queue, meaning there is some backlog (you want to call it retrogress???).
i will post more information once it is available.

HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE STILL NOT ABLE TO MOVE IMMIGRANT VISA RECAPTURE BILL OR NURSES BILL
For the third week in a row, the committee fails to move forward on these bills despite being scheduled today for a markup. And, according to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, tomorrow is not looking much better. Lovely.

I would not worry much about whether we receive our package back or not. Because If USCIS is "rejecting" then how would you/your lawyer know that it has "rejected" it unless it sends the crap back. So legally USCIS HAS to return /mail back to you otherwise it will face another lawsuite. The real question is How it will reject it? Would it open a package and check for insufficient/improper documents and put a note about it and then reject it OR just put a note of rejection on closed envelope and returned back without opening it? In second case we are absolutely fine as far as second time filing is concerned but guys in first scenario if you really send insufficient documents/improper documents then your case may be screwed permanently for second time filing. Actually people MUST ask about this to their lawyers before jumping into the bandwagon. I have asked and waiting for my lawyer's response.

India Was in 1998 for some time. Not sure if this is right "IN - 1/1/2002 7/1/2001" .
Well in Jan 2005 VB IN was 1/1/2002.
It was the time when priority dates were added.

I'm hoping they make all the Family Based current. Don't see why they only made the EB categories current in the July 07 Fiasco. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The reason the processing dates matter is because by the time USCIS gets to process our I765 and I131 the dates would have retrogressed and then what happens is a million dollar ?
What is your point, Tnite? EAD and AP can filed/issued even if the PD is retrogressed. MY PD was retrogressed after I filed I-485 and EAD and AP were issued?

SVN,
this poll is a good idea to understand what most of the members expect from CORE. I for one am looking for any updates about (1) new bills being proposed that we can support - calls, faxes etc and (2) any infomation that can help to "predict" whats happening with USCIS efforts to use all visa # (yeah, sorry.. had to use predict and USCIS in same sentence) (3) updates on efforts towards FOIA, country caps remoal, capture of unused #s, .... and anything and everything you can throw at me about immigration...
but I also understand that most of these lobbying efforts are done in the back ground and its not good idea to share anything in these times. who knows, may be there is an anti-immigrant lurking around (ofcourse paying $$ to become Donor, become senior member whatever) to get inside information. I would rather trust the CORE to do their work and give me directions when they see fit.. like meeting local senators etc..
transparancy is good as long as it doesn't hurt the cause. I agree with the fact that we pooled $10K in March for FOIA and core gave the game plan and now everyone who contributed wants to know. fine. but you can't expect core to have a goal a month just to get contributions, this is a grass-roots organization and any highly skilled legal immigrant should be able to donate $25 without waiting for updates every week.. I don't think asking updates every week because you contributed $25 or $50 is fair.. just my thoughts..
