A fund raising party sounds like fun! Coffee Hour too..
I have already got my Aunt and two of my friends to sign up for Team IV so far. We are going to train together atleast once a week and we will organize a fund raising party and contribute all the proceeds to IV.

My wife and son are going to India on vacation this summer. Their current H4 visa got expired (June 2006) on their passports. They have a valid I-797 notice expiring Oct 2007.
However, I am applying my H1B extension next month and will get 3 years extension sometime in May 2007. I want to get them visa stamp based on my new approval notice.
For dependent H4 visa stamp, do they need their own approval notice 797 or principal's approval notice be sufficient to get the stamping?

She obviously cannot wait till Oct 1st or she won't get paid for the first week (at least). Contact the SSN office to find out how soon you have to file. In my opinion, you are eligible to get an SSN the moment you receive work authorization (even if its for a future date).

Someone from the immigrant community should have a seat a the board level in USCIS. We are the primary stake holders in this system, yet we have to resort to public demonstrations to get a point across to them. Is it me or is there something wrong in this??
AILA represents their interests and they get regular meetings. Often ours are the same. Sometimes not.
I'm sure the business community goes golfing with them on weekends.

Till early part of 2004 or latter part of 2003, most of the Indians applied EB3 very few applied EB2. After 2004, it was reverse. I doubt any one appled EB3 in 2005 0r 2006.
If EB3 stays continously in 2001 and EB2 in 2004 (there is 3 year difference in cutoff date between EB2 and EB3 now), the guys with EB3 PD 2002 and 2003 will convert to EB2 by applying new 140 to transfer PD. This flow will balance the cut-off dates. Eventually it will reach a common ground or a break-even point.
So, when a 485 is pending, can one file for a new LC (under EB2), I140 and have two GC in progress simutaneously?

good point ..I do invest in stocks / ETF's and funds ...but I would definitely say ..stay away from day trading !!! be diversified, invest in good companies (invest only pocket money/minor amount in very risky assets) and for the long term ..i.e. you should not need that money during emergencies ..STAY AWAY from all day trading software !!! and if you cannot take losses (or are happy with normal returns) ...stay away from stocks (except for a small portfolio/ 401 etc) completely

Depends on lot of factors. I have been trading for last 10 years. I don't trade stocks. I trade index futures sp500 and Nasdaq mini. It is short term - couple of hours to maximum couple of days. Day Trading requires good analytical skills for technical charts and lot of discipline to follow enter and exit rules.
Taxes are computed differently for futures trading. You will need this IRS form (6781 Gains and Losses From Section 1256 Contracts and Straddles) to file your taxes for trading futures.

I agree. They are mostly snake oil. I suggest - do some reading and follow some indicators and come up with Trading Strategy. It is recommended to do paper trading before starting trading with real money.

Trading, of course, involves risks. I pick funds for my 401(k). So far it has been good. I was up last year 4.2%. Never had any losing year in 401(k).

Does any one know the reason behind long wait for perms, Is it tied to economy or they are busy with some thing else? My colleague who applied in early 2008 got it 1 month. Now the wait time is more than 6 months.

It took 11 months to move 8 days. When Eb3 get into retrogressionevery one started filing in EB2. I think if nothing comes relief like SKIL \ CIR better to stay wit EB3 - Mar 2004.

Those of us who are lucky to have high paying jobs and good employers can very look down on the folks that don't have healthcare. However, health care is now a human right declared by United Nations in Dec 1948. In the US, the largest developed nation, there are millions who cannot get healthcare (only emergency care). Even if this healthcare doesn't reduce it drastically in the short term, it will stem the rising costs eventually. That is the long term projection at least. Think about how much cheaper prescription drugs are in Canada when compared to the US.
I think that "what we are debating here is "what is better for the US". You and I can contribute to the SS and Medicare system that we are not allowed to draw from until we have greencards or become naturalized citizens. The illegals you mention are in the same boat. The point that I am making is that the anti-immigration lobby sees all immigrants in a single light. If we try to divide ourselves away from the low-skilled we are not going to get anywhere. Immigration in general touches a number issues - civil and human rights, economics, etc.. By trying to distance ourselves from any of these issues, we are in fact make it more difficult for ourselves. For the record, I do want a green card, I want a fair system. I don't believe in treating one person different from another because of their background or the kind of work they perform. (that's just to give some perspective regarding my views on the issue). I think all the fields are getting targeted. I am not from IT. As per my attorney, current situation is that PERMS for EB2's are getting 100% audited.
