Contribute for what. I would , If I am told for what we are contributing. What are the real faces.
Don't contribute, come to DC and you will find & know all the faces behind IV
I am not one of those who can go advocate at places as I do not have luxury of it. I respect people who are going beyond their daily schedule and advocating, but what are the goals.
It is certainly not because I/others want to see the buildings that we are asking people to come to DC - and the people going in to the meetings will be advocating for their and your green card issues (whether you want it or not - these efforts will benefit everyone stuck in the EB backlogs including you!). Getting the green card backlogs cleared is the goal - and it is deplorable that after being a member since 2007, you do not know this.
I have been coordinating with IV for the past 2 years now and I have never had members (majority) - including you - once trying to find a way of helping in this cause. IV has had the campaign of meeting with lawmakers in their local districts at a time that is convenient for each member - IN THEIR OWN LOCAL TOWNS - and I can count my fingers and toes on how many have actually done it.
The sad part is that you come from a state that was successful in raising $1500 from members (in addition to the contributions to IV and air mile donations) and instrumental in sending 5 members fully funded to DC + 2 green card holders + 2 members buying their own tickets. The chapter is coming together in these circumstances and you are clueless....... of what is happening within your own state - Joining the chapter neither costs money nor effort, just the benefit of knowing what is happening within your state!
I however want to contribute not *donate* if I know what am I going after.
Contribute or Donate - if it is money - it is one and the same practically. I am not sure what you are going after, but I can tell you what IV is going after - clearing the EB backlogs.
For any advise the standard answer we get is - Consult your immigration lawyer.
We actually provide 4 reputed lawyers (Ari Sauer and Greg Siskind of VisaLaw.com, Raj Iyer of Offices of Carl Shusterman, and Prashanthi Reddy of Reddyesq) with whom you can get your questions answered for free 3 Thursdays in a month! Do you know about the conference calls that is done every week with attorneys - check it out in the members forum if you were unaware of it!
I dont want to dampen the interests of others who are ready to contribute. Tell me few reasons and I can contribute a decent amount.
Nobody in this forum or elsewhere said, "Mr/Ms bitzbytz - please donate the money to IV" And certainly no one is forcing you to do it either. There are requests for contributions from many members - because they believe in the cause - and their audience are fellow believers.
May be we should make this paid. and then I will find my reason and I will pay to join
We are happy with people who believe in the cause and want to donate. You are most welcome to use IV for free!

Please read this post by gcnirvana for all those feeling left out:
There are so many 'Thank you' threads running and its hard to keep track of everything. Anyways, I posted this elsewhere and am proud to post it again here. Read on....
I was just curious as to how many from Core Team will benefit from today's news. So I looked at the core team's GC details and here is the summary:
1. 8 out of 12 Core Team Members WILL NOT BENEFIT from today's news.
2. Because 6 of them are stuck in BEC
3. 2 of them are in the final stages of their GC.
But still they fought for this cause and never ever felt 'Why should I care'! Tears came running down when I looked at the details. You are just awesome. Though I am thankful today...I am thankful for the day I found this site and am thankful to god almighty for giving me an opportunity to know you all and work with you guys.
I also sincerely hope and wish that you all will get out of the mess you are in right now and we are with you till the end.

Did your employer apply as new H1 to be counted in 2008 H1 quota or was it applied asking for the remainder of 6 yr period from the previous H1. If its a new H1, seems like USCIS is still sending receipt notices for the applicants selected in the lottery...If it was for the remainder of the first H1 period, then you will definitely here from them soon...
If it was applied as a change of status application from H4 to H1 and if she has a valid I-94 valid atleast till October 1st, and if all the documentation was properly done, then it shouldn't be an issue for USCIS to approve her COS H1 petition with I-94 attached and she can start working without requiring to get the visa stamp..If she gets an apporval without an attached I-94, then she has to go to her home country and get the Visa stamped before starting to work....

Hi
I am planing to go for H-1B stampng in Mumbai some time in June/july.
I am confused about what to write in question-31 of DS 156 form.
I came here on student visa in Jan 2001 and currently h-1 approved (not stamped) since March 06.
When I orginally applied for student visa in Oct 2000 I was given probably 221 G. then I reappeared in Dec 2000 and my Student visa were granted.
So on my DS 156 what should I write in question-31 - which ask " Have you ever been refused US visa ? Yes or No?
help from experienced members will solve my confusion.
thanks

EB1 is the brightest not in all ways. If you are a manger in outsourcing company and in one more country u still qualify for EB1. It does not take long to become a manager in outsourcing companys. So how u can break the law or tweak around it works. I know people who were on bench life long in consulting companies in EB2 got GCs.

Makes sense, like the idea of abolishing the waiting period for GC.... but with all due respect i belive that will never happen esp in a post 911 era where there is a lot of checks. I belive if they put the name check process in a fast track it would be benificial. Suks that we have to wait another 5 years after getting GC to get Citizenship, if anything i would think counting 5 years after 485 is logical.
I think we should not talk about abolisihing waiting time for citizesnhip (after GC) and no one as I see talking that.
Most of us are talking about REDUCING waiting time for Employment based GC holder, who is already here for several years.
Most practical thing might be to make it Similar to Marriage based Citizenship where you just have to wait for 3 yrs after GC.
So we can Request for reducing citizenship waiting period from 5 to 3 years for employment based GC holders who had paid atleast 5 years in the Federal taxes ( to preserve orignal intent of 5 year for family based GC holders waiting period for citizenship) , Have MS or Higher degree in STEM field ( Last time they tried to reduce one year for any one who can study and learn english) , Can pass Background Check and Moral Standards ( that is must for security purpose).

Been five years waiting , and I do not think we will see any relief anytime soon. So, I am switching jobs. My current employer (a big multinational, won;t just port it for me, and I am not going to haggle). Though my future employer would port my EB3 to EB2, it won;t transfer my H1B, and I will have to use my EAD. Question: Can I port from EB3 to EB2, while on EAD and if I let go my H1B? My apologies, if this is not the right forum.

She's our strongest hope, according to well-placed sources.
Zoe Lofgren, Congresswoman,
- Chair - Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security and International Law (http://lofgren.house.gov/committees.shtml )
- ex-member of AILA.
This is great..I wonder how powerful she is? They never cared to reply to her July 2nd letter.

Yes. you are indeed having a discussion - a discussion with yourself because little of what you are saying is making any sense to anyone on this forum.
Yelling out a lie a hundred times doesnt make it the truth.
If you read IV's provisions, the one on tops is removal of per-country limits. Basically, it would remove all EB3 backlogs and WAS a part of the legislation introducted by rep lofgren in 2007/2008. for political reasons, it never passed in the house. Of course, you would blame IV for lobbying in such a way that the bills did not pass.
its very easy to criticise. Why dont you start an organization that would (in your opinion) do more for EB3? I am sure you will get the support of the thousands you claim do not believe in IV? If you succeed in doing that, there is no reason to have this "discussion".
you are a typical arm-chair critic who probably has done and will never do anything even one cents worth for the EB backlog cause.
Yes and you are showing your maturity by talking about what i write as a long essay and garbage. Why are EB2 guys scared to have a dicsussion. Is it because you donot have any talking points and are talking vaguly yourselves
BTW the reason i write so detailed is because i believe i am respecting you by replying in detail to your points. I was under the impression that we were having a discussion, but sadly i am having a disucssion and you are ranting and raving.

It is just not enough to add a new member to IV. In my opinion, we also need the new member to be proud of associating himself/herself with IV.
Here is what every new member needs to be made aware of-
- What IV has achieved in the last year of existence?
(Manager's amendment, media interviews including the Reuters article plus the last minute attempts in the lame-duck session)
- IV is the **only** grass-roots organization in the US working towards issues of Skilled Legal Immigration. The affected people in retrogression runs close to a million.
The thing I am driving at is that new members join and do not persist with IV because they have not been made aware of what IV is and what it has achieved.
It is not about IV core members alone, the issues at hand are affecting YOU!!!!
well said.

Most of us are missing the point here. The bill is aimed at those immigrants who have obtained advanced degrees in the US. And believe me, there are lot of aspiring immigrants who have been waiting since 2002-2003 who also happen to have American degrees, most of them stuck with EB3. Priority Dates will still be in play. Most probably, there will be a new category. These additional visas will help clear up backlogs irrespective of your current visa category. If you have a US degree and your PD is current, you will be eligible. Not sure what the confusion is about :)
What you say is true but can you please let me know what you think might be the reasoning of the introducer of the bill.
1. Get rid of DV because they add no value to economy - That i can understand
2. Give the saved 55 k visa to US educated GC applicants. That i CANNOT understand
WHY ?? Don't GC applicants who work but are not educated here contribute to the economy also
Instead of focussing the energy of an organiazation towards unrealistic targets such as removal of country quota and recapture of unused visa it would be better to channel all efforts to get the 55K visas given to people with older priority date, and if it makes EB2 guys panicky ask for a rule to keep the date difference between EB2 and EB3 by 3 years (an arbitary number) . That will keep EB2 and EB3 happy instead of the bill in teh current form

Wendall,
All she said was that I will be hearing from them within 60 days. When I tried to ask more questions she said "Sir, I told you 60 days, consider that a very good answer". She would not say any more. Maybe she saw that it was already approved but probably they are not allowed to tell that to us over the phone till we get the approval email and said that in a cryptic way.
Lasantha,
When you called TSC prior to your GC approval, what did the IO at TSC tell you?
I'm asking because I know your RD was June 2007, when I called TSC today they told me that they have not got to my I-485 application because they are currently working on I-485 applications with RDs of April 2007 and my RD is June 2007 like yours.
Thanks!

Well it's obvious that it all boils down to what you bring to the table.
But that is with any company, it you're not providing revenue to the company you will get fired.
But at least IBM is not hiring H1B's without having a project in which to put people. I doubt IBM makes people like on their resume, I mean not minor lies, blantant lies like making a Fresh grad show 5 years of experience.
Several Indian consulting firms offered me this.
