It is all dependent on one's situation. Obviously housing is better than renting, only if one's situation allows it. Do not extend beyond your means. I read above somebody making their expenses+mortgage on one person's salary. He has great hope for GC very soon. That can a wise decision. Buying expensive cars, houses, gadgets is very attractive.
I have noticed people buy stuff (not just houses) based on their present income and think they will have same or higher income. These people are working on contracts in IT companies.

As pappu stated in the first post of the above referenced thread - some of the ongoing efforts include finding how many IV members would get benefit from such a provision and get basic details such as username/Priority Date of impacted members. Future action items might include drafting documents and letters to support this provision. There maybe actions such as sending emails etc. However we would not be able to open a public action item unless we can have thousands of our members willing to participate in a grassroots action item. This survey intends to understand the needs of our membership for this provision and collect grassroots information.
The fact is we have a dedicated group of volunteers (and we need more) who have been trying their best to spread the message about this initiative so that a strong grass-roots support can be created leading up to launch of the public action items. So far we have around 1100 people who have responded. Based on quick calculations carried out using PERM data, it is estimated that there are at least 60K-70K EB applicants waiting to file I-485/EAD/AP (this is a very conservative estimate..the actual number could be much more). Grass-roots initiatives require time and patience and we request maximum number of impacted folks to participate actively.

IV does not advice any flower campaign etc without consulting with us. Any wrong move can potentially hurt the interest of this community and the advocacy work we are doing. Years we have been told priority date establishes your place in the queue.
We have spurned job offers and declined the new PERM process to hold on to the priority dates.
Many are still awaiting labor certifications from the backlog elimination centers. Out comes USCIS and says everyone with a LC can file I140 & I485.
People still waiting for LC with priority dates in 2003-2004 are seeing applicants who have priority dates as late as 2007 but with approved LCs through PERM walk through to I485.
Net result, USCIS is going to be flooded with applicants enough to retrogress the priority dates 3-4 years back as early as september. (Everybody with a LC will be able to file for I485 in July). So applicants with priority dates of 2007 are going to get EAD and GC, while LC backlogged 2003 applicants to have to wait for another 3-4 years before they can even file I485.
Aint fair. Aint fair at all. How can this be. How can rules be changed in the middle of the game.
Dont worry. If your LC still in BEC with old PD you are more luckier than the guys going to file 485 now. DOL commited to clear backlong by Sep 2007. Oct VB will come up with priority dates in stone age. If your PD is very old you will get GC with in 6 months. Filing 485 in July and Aug with very new PD will not bring them any fruit. They have to wait more years. 750K 485 and 750K EAD and 750K AP will result in choking the CIS system. They will feel the challange of renewal on time.
I am very conficent that USCIS is not going to process all 750K at a time. They will definitly modify the processing method, fom current practice. First, they can not schudle FP for all 750K applicants in available ASC centers. So, they will sort the 485 based on PD, and process tham based on PD and country and catagory wise. I beg to differ from your point of view that approvals are on PD. If you take a good look at the PDs of approved cases posted here, you will there are many post July 04 (mostly in Oct and Dec 04) and we all know there are many before that.
They are clearly going by ND. I have seen 1/2 case approved that had ND after 8/30/07
High number of approvals over the first few days were expected. Centers review/preadjudicate cases based on 'real' receive dates (which are close to notice dates), as physical files are sorted in that sequence. That is happening. Sept VB was available couple of weeks ago, which prepared them to issue formal approvals as soon as September starts. USCIS SOP describes that once cases are preadjudicated they are shelved (wating for visa) in sequence of PD's. Therefore, most approvals are preadjudicated cases.
Congratulations to All who got approved. Best wishes to those still counting. If you ND is not too far from published dates (i.e. it is sometime in Aug/Sep/Oct 07), and your PD is high, there is very high chance of you getting a good news soon.

Well I had called a NY congresswoman when I was stuck in a H1 name check. I found them open and willing to help. She even contacted the FBI.
Well I am just an ordinary person, and the same as everyone here, and not saying I will do everything myself. There are persons who are better skilled at this and know the immigration law better.
Also don't rule out lobbying, I just said we also need something else that should justify our case without a lobby. I'm asking for suggestions or ideas.
I may be new here, If you see my post on the other forum, I'm asking for the creation of an organization with skilled people who will create a new campaign among legal immigrants. Kind of like Grass roots movement.

New Passport Received by Me : 2/12/2009 (11 business days)
I think Houston is processing the cases quick....I am impressed with the turnaround time.
Hope it helps anyone wondering about the dates.

Is there any last date of doing medical if one needs to file by July31st?
If you have everything else ready, It takes roughly 2-3 days (atleast 48 hours) from your 1st doctors appointment to when you get the reports. This is the best case scenario considering your results for HIV & TB come out -ve. If you need a chest X-ray, add in another day atleast.
Also, If you filing through a lawyer, there is a significant backlog there, most of the lawyers will not file your papers the day you give it to them, considering you give your lawyer, all completed forms and not a questionairre, it will take a few days for the lawyer at the earliest to go through the papers.

20/month is a joke for EB retrogression removal. It costs $15+/day for metro + car parking, to Washington DC.
