having just filed my 485, are there any issues on travel outside the country? Do i need to apply for AP to do the same or should I travel on H1 (and wife on H4)

Dependents don't need SS# to file. Only primary applicant is required to have SSN.
You need either a SSN or a TIN to claim someone as a dependent. (Iam not sure if it applies to kids, but surely to adults)

Gurus,
I need your help in this scenario. I went to India during Mar 06 and got a stamping on my passport till Jun 2010 (based on my I140 approval). But at the POE, the officer stamped my I-94 till Jun 07 as he could only stamp the date that was on my current I-797. He also told me that I can goto the local USCIS office and extend my I-94 till 2010. Is it true? and if so, how would I go about doing that??

Let's say if I am on the green card (EAD) , then still I can not evade this tax situation correct ?I mean if they pay me and I pay to the company in India who is really responsible for the service.
Right now, with the current setup, the company in India will have to pay corporate taxes on their overseas income. If I'm not mistaken, IT companies have a reduced tax rate in India. All in all, the 4pc should not be a big damper.

We got our EAD in the mail today - We are late June filers (29th June) and got our receipt numbers last week, - I have some q's-
-Can one get EAD without completing FInger printing? In the finger priniting colum on the EAD it says - not available, Would that matter?
-How does one activate his/her EAD?
-Have any other late june filers already got their EAD?

I have applied for H1B extension with my original h1 company (a consulting firm) and due to some pending queries regarding the h1b applications in general for my company, my h1 extension was in pending state with no updates. (I applied around Jun 15th 2008).
Later in dec 2008, I applied for h1 transfer with a new firm, and got a RFE on Jan 7th with similar requests... My lawyer asked me for all my W2's since 2005 (my original h1 start year), pay stubs for the last 4 or 5 months, and letter from end client, prime vendor and myself stating job responsibilities.. I have collected all this information, and they are going to respond to the RFE this week. I hope all goes well...

Whoever opened this post about retrogression, close this stupid post.
Previous months everyone was discussing on how the dates should move, how to avoid retrogress.
Now when the dates have moved, now some idiots are speculating on when and how the dates should retrogress.
Guys get a life, focus on the core element here, the element is to relieve ourselves and others from backlog. Read all these posts, what are we you all focusing on when dates will Retrogress

They will not get I-94 for more than 6 months. You need to do following things to claim them as dependet(s) -
1. Extend their stay beyond I-94 i.e. 6 months.
2. Get ITIN number for them. (I am not sure how you get it on B1/B2)
This is the primary reason, immigration does not give more than 6 months I-94 on B1/B2 and avoid extending their stay....even if those are genuine reason(s).

Hi everyone, I have been approved on 9/6/7.
only 92 days after AOS filing.
My sponsor, I did work with them from 2002-2007. They agree to file i-485 in the hopes economy would get better. However house builders are doing very bad now and they cannot take me back after approval.
The question is, does this spoiled my chances for citizenship?
I think you can get a letter from employer stating that they can not employ you any more. I am not sure if they issue a letter to every person that loses the job. Just make sure that your intention to work with the sponsering employer is documented somehow .
I have an idea here ... just write an email to your boss or HR stating "how good company has been to you and how they helped you with your immigration process and given a choice you would rather work with the same company"
Take a printout of all these emails and save them if you still have a chance. You can use all these to prove if you run into any problems during the naturalization process.
Apart from these things collect the news paper clips or company wide emails that talk about downsizing. These things should help you to prove your intentions if there is a query about your intentions at the time of naturalization.
If you think company will survive for 5 or 10 more years , just keep in touch with your HR

I don't know how much truth it has - but this is what a friend told me:

3. There are over 339,000 people stuck in name check - this is done for naturalization and 485. I can bet you this will be the next battle because a lot people who have filed 485 will get stuck in this black hole, where this no accountability by FBI to individuals because the "client" is USCIS and last quarter there were 400 law suits (Writ of Madamus etc) to force USCIS and FBI to do their jobs. It would be best if setting time limits for name checks are included in IVs goals now itself. No point in jumping from the frying pan if one is going to eventually land in the fire. The name check snares a lot of Indians, Chinese, middle easterners, russians etc. Most people stuck in the name check have never been involved with the law - go figure the algorithm FBI uses to trawl the ocean bed!
Another thought i had was...Before all of us june,july,august folks land up in the blackhole of FBI namechecks...Can we lobby for some kind of transparency?What in the world can make them take 4 yrs to check a persons name?Can they at least maintain a website that they update as and when a name check is completed...Please core and members,do something about this...something as effective as the campaign to accept july applicants!!while they are overhauling the system let them get it right all the way!!

I have created several documents and am working on a similar one as outlined below. But we need 50 people working on such items instead of one.
We have lots of ideas pouring into threads here but most are soon forgotten and not followed up on.
gc_peshwa has created a googlegroup to deal with participating on USCIS calls etc. We can add this agenda to that group to prevent creation of too many googlegroups and spreading ourselves thin. Alternatively we have a "Media" googlegroup as well which is dormant. That group could be used for this purpose.
We see a lot of these articles every day praising illegal immigration. How about creating a google group with volunteers that will pick up such similar articels and post a rebuttal, either online or through another website?
The one we discussed yesterday was about how illegals contribute to the economy by paying $1.5 Billion in income tax for an estimated 15-20 million illegals.
This was estimated from the 2010 Census data.
We could initially post these rebuttals online on probably a section of the IV website and also send it to other news sites.
People who are good at parsing excel/MDB, csv sheets will be useful.
Most people are not aware of our issues and contributions to society.

You need to follow instructions. It makes no difference in processing time if your I-485 application is pending in NSC and based on instruction you need to apply in TSC and Vice Versa.
In fact I think, load sharing is going on. I applied I-765 at NSC but case is handled by MSC. Don't be surprized, that you apply at TSC and case being handled by other office.
