I have emailed, requesting my local congressman to give me an appointment. I have also asked him if he will support, co-sponsor or vote for the bill.
Great job. Its generally better to call them and ask to speak to the immigrant or legislative secretary. Senators may receive close to 10,000 emails a day.
It is highly unlikely the Senator or congressman/woman will actually meet you, which every one seems to be afraid of.
The one you will meet will be their assistant (immigration), and they are just normal people and generally friendly. The appointment would be with them in most cases.
This secretary is quite important and gathers notes from meetings with different people like you, to decide the agenda, based on what people in the district want. They will advice the law maker on voting on bills, because what their local people want matters a lot to them. Thats why it is important to maintain a ongoing relation with them and keep reminding them of our position, especially EB queue.
Another thing to remember is they won't take much effort for a single immigrant, and we need to inform we are part of Immigration voice and you represent a few hundred thousand immigrants.
When you actually get the appointment, please contact user 'StarSun' who will give you material for the appointment.

Hi,
I sent in my OPT application on 26th of March, and it was delivered there on the 29th of March. I still haven't received a receipt and the check hasn't been cashed yet, even though it has been 4 weeks now.
Please do update me change of status. I am also facing problem with 29th March delivery.

So?
What is your point?
I dont buy the argument that only India and China produce the brightest people who are willing to work here in U.S. There are just as many people from Europe and the rest of the world who are just as qualified and who would want to work in the U.S. The problem starts with the H1-B visas, where most of them are taken by these Indian IT consulting companies. Correct me if Im wrong, but I dont think these IT companies hire non-Indian workers. There are many qualified people from the rest of the world who are willing to work here in U.S, but cant because the majority of the H1-B visas is going to Indians and Chinese nationals. Perhaps, there should be a per-country quota at the H1-B level. I dont think there is anything wrong with the current country quota; if some countries dont use their quotas then these quotas roll into the countries that have higher demand.

I guess when millions are unemployed, why not kick out foreign workers so that the jobs become available to the locals ?, is that the intention ?
Whatever it is, folks are hoarding cash, and if given a GC can stimulate the economy. I guess we will know who the real gainers and loosers are

With this attitude and arrogance, I rarely think there would be motivation for anyone to do anything for IV.
I started discussion by asking , how can IV convince me that my donation is going to help, I got shot down by ARROGANT ******** and got all reds as if I care. I was planning on a charity/donation drive of my own to get some money for IV.
Know lot of consultants, who really dont know what to do with their miles with every one a executive airline status.
Already have 10+ people pledging Poker tournament from my poker group with their miles for Airlines and hotels. We are talking of a Million AA miles.
Indian restaurants(s) having a Immigration week where a dollar of each bill be given to IV.
I was even thinking of standing at Indian stores in Dallas to ask people to consider for IV cause, as long as I believed and hence was asking.
I was just getting started with so many ideas for my free time.
Good luck in what ever you do guys. Note that GC is not everything and note that I am still on extended H1, family on H1 and EAD never helped me. so assumption that EAD helped my life is baseless. All these hypocrites are long gone from IV once they get GC. All we get is response that Mr X or Y , even after getting GC, is working fro cause. How can I believe.
Any organization can be successful if there are questions answered and not shot down. Just working at DC doesnt make some one a strong contributor for IV.Work at grass root level is so imp. What I have noticed is any one who went to DC has become headstrong, egoist and arrogant as if they own IV.
Please read my initial post before commenting. I always said, I am for IV cause. just convince me so that I can convince some one

I am sure a lot of skilled people like us, especially immigrants, have a strong desire to work hard, smart and make money. Thanks for taking the initiative.
1. Do you plan to buy stocks directly from the companies or use a broker like TdAmeritrade, Charles Swab etc.,
2. Is there going to be one trading style like you mentioned about Pattern Day Trading.
3. Is there a plan to conduct some series of tutorials or sort and practice at our own risk without supervision
4. Will there be any local, phone or online meet
5. Above all how is it going to BENEFIT IV.
You got me glued to this now.

I will be taking my child to India for the first time. She has a US passport, both parents are from India - I am not sure if I should just take the 10 yr visa for her or apply for the overseas citizenship card. Is there a benefit to use one over the other? How long does it take to process each of them? Please help. Thanks.

I am expecting 2004 EB will be cleared this month. All the 2004 guys just relax and be easy ( particularly SOP ). Honestly i didnt care much before, there are million things better than gc in life. Having said that, its good to have purely for travelling purposes.
If anyone whose PD is earlier than mine, i truly apologize. Its not me, its USCIS. I have seen PDs same as mine getting approved 2 yr ago.
Stay tight and believe in yourself NOT USCIS.
Congrats! My wife's PD is close as yours. No update yet. ND is same. 2nd week of October.
I am hoping for the best!

eastindia, you are correct. GCPerm sometime back was on a "flower campaign" mode and was asking all IV members to send flowers so that USCIS will approve his/her green card ASAP. now that, it has been approved, the user has switched to a citizenship campaign mode.
GCPerm, a piece of advice. When a person volunteers for a cause to help others, the person should never think of how the result benefits them. If you look at IV members who are advocating for clearing this green card backlogs, by volunteering for the cause, they are not looking at how it benefits them, but how they can pave a way for future applicants.
When it comes to citizenship it is more difficult as I have personally seen people who are willing to continue with green cards for more than 20 years than taking up US Citizenship because they are more emotionally connected to their birth countries.
Anyway, note if you are sure of the fact that you want this campaign to continue even after six years of you starting it(by then you can become a US Citizen), then you should be promoting this.
Example, Aman Kapoor who started IV, got his green card and still fighting to clear the green card backlog mess.
Hope you understand the point. Nobody wants a leader who won't be able to continue once their ulterior motives are attained.
Guys let it be selfishness... but ultimately if we win, it is a win for every one... I am living in this country for more than 11 years but still with an EAD status.... We are spending most of our life time as an ALIEN. Think yourself which is better...

Lets look at Rep. Smith - Reclaim American Jobs Caucus | Congressman Lamar Smith (http://lamarsmith.house.gov/Issues/Issue/?IssueID=14781)
he is against amnesty and for border control.
--> the cir menendez bill has all the border control provisions that the republicans want (in fact, it is entirely what they want) - so one issue is addressed.
--> illegal immigrants who are already in the country - record number of them have been deported in the 2 years under this administration (more than the republican presidents in the past!), trying to deport them all will take billions of dollars (which the govt does not have - or will it be charged on the legal immigrants?). Yes, one should not support lawbreakers, but just saying that does not solve the problems......what proposals are there that will address the illegal immigrants? nothing.
the talking points are:
border control, we are against amnesty. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Provide solutions, if not a path towards legalization with due fines, what alternative do you suggest?
Lamar Smith's webpage:

--> Sounds pro legal immigrants right. For now, yes.
--> How many of the H4 spouses said they have no intention of working in the US in the visa interview? How long before they come for us, for using the legal immigration loopholes to enter the job market? Is it fair for qualified spouses to stay home when they can contribute to the economy - absolutely not!! But in the eyes of the americans, are they taking away the jobs? absolutely!
IF not now, these very people will come after us too..
what do you think?
Frankly, I have not yet heard any noise being created regarding H4s converting to H1s and joining the workforce, legally.
If someone who came here on an H4/F2, upgrades their skillset via formal education (no issues in this case!) or via professional training and the ability to fake experience and sell it to land a "project" (no legal issues here, only moral issues and hats off to their guts.. How do they do that??) then they absolutely deserve to be in the workforce.
There is a lot of noise about H1Bs but most of it was focussed on Indian IT giants locking up the H1Bs by the 1000s and (in the anti-immigrant lobby's words) "bring in cheap labor from India". Another blemish brought about on H1B is "gross exploitation of systemic loopholes by IT consulting companies (mostly owned by Indians) ". These issues are being addressed by USCIS by increasing scruitny before issuing new H1B approvals.
If your company has played by the rules, your credentials are not flawed, there is very little to worry about.

Hi friends,
Let me introduce myself as an EB3 applicant waiting for about 5 years in the line!
Not many will probably be pleased with what I would like state. This calls for some dispassionate introspection.
First of all, let us realize that Green Card is not a right. The rules of the game were clear when we applied and all of us were conscious of what was in store. We all applied with the hope (repeat hope) of settling in the USA. The July 2007 fiasco helped many, including myself, to file 485. The US government went out of its way to accommodate us, rolled back their decision and allowed us to file 485 at that time. We must be eternally thankful for that. There is no need for INS to fear us. We all know how many years it takes to receive a reply from any government office, back home.
To avoid wastage of visas, the INS has formulated some rules and many Indian citizens have been benefitted and will continue to benefit. The nos. have also been made transparent now. The problem with us is that we want more and more and more...Wastage of visas is not of relevance to the INS, it is of relevance to us. It is not fair to question the method of distribution or the rules behind the game. The truth is, we do not have any right to even comment, leave alone question the INS. Let us be clear about that.
It is not not correct to assume that INS rules of distribution have been made arbitrarily. Are we the only intelligent people in the world? Is it that no one has thinking capability? Come on friends, let us be patient and happy for the consideration shown by INS. May be there have been lapses in the past. But which country or which organization / individual has been absolutely infallible? So let us stop blaming and critizing INS.This is a negative approach.
Many Indians seem to get irritated when INS wants to enforce the rules. Nothing will ever happen to people who follow the rules in USA. I do not want to write in a public forum about all the tricks many do, to enter and stay here. Let us all listen to our inner voice.
The real solution would be to plead for a visa recapture. That would be a positive approach. This EB3 / EB2 argument will vertically split the forum. If we EB3 people want to push our agenda, the EB2 folks have a right to counter it and appeal to INS. Afterall, today's world is one of cold and ruthless competition. So, let us not pursue this path.
There are many EB2 candidates who have come to the US way back in 2001, but could file their Labor petitions only in 2006 or 2007 becasue they were forced to do bonded labour by the desi companies. In other words, everyone has had their share of the problems.
My humble request : LET US WORK UNITEDLY AND PLEAD FOR VISA RECAPTURE
EB3 friends, be confident. Everything will work out well!
Best wishes

Since its a PD portability case, probably no PD is written on the receipt. It might be to be determined.
I'm not sure if you can file your 485 as well - dont see a reason why not. But one thing you can do to have better sleep at night :-), is to upgrade your 140 to Premium processing. If you get it done tomorrow, you will have an answer and portability of PD by end of this month. Then you know for sure where you stand.

Are fingerprints required for all EAD renewals? I am travelling on projects across the country and will not be at home to attend the fingerprint appointment if any. Is it possible to get a fingerprint appointment in another location. My address is in Texas, but my project is in Wisconsin.

Will the completion of the Backlogs Centers help a LC recently submitted? Will my status change if an audit is required? I am just worried for the "30 days" deadline to response to the audit letter. Just in case the letter has been sent to my employer and is still hasn't been open it. :( Am I asking too much if my LC was submitted on 08/06/07?
