I have followed the activity at this site for a few weeks now. The Indian community in the US is probably the most well to do and educated of all the minorities. Yet history repeats itself. Most are more concerned about esoteric subjects, nuclear treaties etc than the plight of the people here from their own country. If all the Indian community naturalized or not would stand up for this cause, people would listen. They would be forced to. But as always divided we fall. Somehow once this dash for permanent residence is over for people, they not only lose sight of their own struggle but also of the thousands of others involved. How many members on this site are actually green card holders or citizens?
I do hope that everyone here endeavors to contribute with the same vigor ever after he or she has obtained his permanent residence. Immigration will always be a struggle and all should be united for the people who will come and face this daunting task over the years.

For new members:
There might be differing views on how to reach all the affected green card applicants, but no one is disputing the fact that the current delays in the employment based green card system are unacceptable and we need to do something drastic to change it. If you applied in EB3 with a priority date in 2011, you could be looking at over 10 -12 years(?) to get a green card. The delays that could happen at H-1B visa stampings at consulates, including TAL checks and additional administrative processing are a huge headache for many.
Currently, many green card applicants don't seem to know just how bad the situation is. The other day, I met someone who has been in this country for over 10 years, who thought that if you have a Master's degree, you can apply in EB1 and you will get your green card in a year!! True story. The reality is that even if you apply in EB2, you could be looking at 5-6 years and this situation can easily get worse.
The Advocacy Days in Washington D.C. on April 4th and 5th are really important because "2011 is a crucial year to get the fix needed to clear the backlogs and allow for our high skilled immigrants to get the relief needed. We need to capitalize on the opportunity to push for legislation now, as it is unlikely to have any favorable immigration bill to be brought for the next 2-3 years (Primary campaigns, Presidential campaigns will take priority)."
Participating in the Advocacy Days in D.C. is the best thing you can do. If you are within driving distance, this should be even more convenient.
The following are some of the items on the Agenda (someone correct me if anything is missing/incorrect):
-Re-capture of unused visa numbers
-Removing country specific limits
-Not counting dependants in the visa number count
-STEM exemption
-Allowing people to file I-485 and get EAD even when their priority date is not current.
If you cannot participate, you can help by contributing financially (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/forum85-action-items-for-everyone/1904554-action-item-advocacy-day-contributions.html). We have only raised $23,050 and still need to raise $26,950, despite some members contributing hundreds of dollars each. We still need everyone's help to reach our target. There is only one week to go. Reduced funding will mean IV having to scale back Advocacy plans, and since this is our best shot in the next 2 years, we could be losing out on a lot.

Just received Card production e-mail for me and wife. Had pretty tough time last few weeks thinking what could have gone wrong as my PD is MAY 15 with everything clear. After waiting a while, 3/4 days ago I had infopass and went to Congressman for help.
Though we are happy but can feel how tough it is to wait and wait....but I assure you all will get it soon, but take action as your intution says as you KNOW YOUR CASE BETTER THAN OTHERS. So take help if you think there is no question of RFE or delay is longer than ususal. Thank you IV and all members. I will contribute, as many of you did after getting it, and stay in touch with forums for anything I can be of assistance.
Thanks and BEST WISHES TO ALL..
Congratulations and thanks for offering to help even after getting your GC.

I am also stuck on PERM appeal. I applied for appeal in Sep 2006 and still haven't heard anything from Atlanta
Perm was applied for Senior Financial Analyst (EB2)
Thanks hellomms for starting this thread and for your effort
Perm applied 08/07/2006 (EB2 Senior Financial Analyst)
Perm denied 08/11/2006
Appeal filed on 09/07/2006
still waiting to hear from Atlanta
hellomms Could you gather all such people who are facing this issue and want to join the effort to fix it, at a single place on an IV thread. Once we have a sizable number of people to take initiative this effort can be successful. It is difficult to divert attention and resources for a single person. Each immigration issue that our community faces is important to the person suffering from it. IV is a place where people can get together and do something about fixing it.

Hi software7,
I do not want to hijack the thread but want to know if you wanted to share your attorney's name and contact info. I had a terrible experience with mine. For 7 years she never communicated with me unless she needed money and papers. She never responded to the phone calls or emails. She filed my case in eb3 and never told me that (I discovered that only 3 months ago..I was thinking for years that mine was eb2 as I have 2 masters and 18 years of experience). Now I am thinking of starting my GC all over again with eb2. If you can PM me or share your attorney contact info that would be great. If anybody else could help that is also very good. I am in Atlanta GA area.

Visa Bulletin Mess Update: Rumors and Innuendo
HLG has confirmed that the CIS is not returning I-485 Applications back to those who filed I-485 during the first week of July. This is leading many to speculate that the CIS may reverse course and re-re-amend the July Visa Bulletin; whether the Visa Bulletin actually reopens remains to be seen. HLG normally refrains from commenting on rumors, but we have talked to several Washington insiders and believe that this is seriously being considered.
What does this mean for foreign nationals who planned on filing I-485s in July 2007?
HLG recommends that all foreign nationals who planned on filing I-485s in June take two actions:
Have your medical appointments completed. Medical appointments can back up quite quickly. Therefore we urge people to complete their medicals.
Send in your documents to HLG. HLGs I-485 Step By Step Guide has a list of documents that we need for all I-485 filing. HLG will not begin preparing the I-485 at this time, but we still recommend that you send us all of the items on the list.
HLG I-485 Step By Step Guide: http://www.hammondlawfirm.com/485step_by_step.htm
What does this mean for foreign nationals who planned on filing via Consular Processing?
We urge all foreign nationals to attend consular appointments. The Consulates are clearly issuing visa stamps to those with appointments.

...only if approved. Guess, luck matter a lot when ur dates are current...as those guys are picking up cases randomly. Majority of approvals thus far are Feb/Jan 06 , when oct/nov guys are still looking forward..Please, dont get me wrong....Systematic approvals helps everyone...as you know the celebration time has come

Looks like approvals has slowed down further.
This is why at the end of the year there are unused visas. All due to inefficiencies of USCIS.
We are doomed.
You guys noticed that the approval rate has really slumped on for EB3 ROW?

So that means you know nothing about how IV works, no point in arguing about something you don't know anything about. You can rather spend time on figuring how cows fly.
Its quite strange and selfish that you couldn't even think of sparing $25 for an organization working for immigrants in 4 years. Many of our senior members are in EB3.
Nobody is selling anything to you. This is not a political party. If you can't support IV, its only you who is going to be the loser, no one else.
I know how IV works and if you want argument i can give you several. Now you are trying to be be eloquonet and talk about how cow fly. Now let me try to set the record straight. If you talk about how cows fly i will talk about how pigs fly not as an argument but as a cofirmation of the fact that EB3 folks are no less educated and proficient in english as EB2 folks
Why do you EB2 folks think you are gods gift to heaven !!!! Guys get out of your superiority complex you are the same as EB3

Have you considered the fatc that if CIS is going as per Receipt Dates within a PD batch, we're talking thousands of cases?

I think not only that this is a nice idea, but also that it is a very smart idea.
Everybody knows that there are MANY, MANY immigrants in this Country, and if the GC holders could vote potentially immediately after getting the GC (if it is already 10 years that they are legally in USA) it would be a very strong point, under election, to push a reform of the current law.
I have been a legal immigrant (F1 and H1-B) for the last 9 years, and still waiting for my Labor Certification approval. This means I will become a US citizen after what? 20 years I am legally in this Country? Approximately, yes!
There are lot of support and response for this thread and can Core IV team consider this to be included in their Phase 2 campaign?. It will be an added feature for our to be legal immigrant community. ^^ Bump^^
