Consulare processing means, you have to go out of the country to your home country and over there you have an interview for an immigrant visa. If approved you come to the states with that visa and receive GC here. If denied, consular processing CANNOT be appealed. The decision is usually final. When you do I485, whcih is adjustment of status, you stay in the US and if gets denied you CAN appeal the decision. To be eligible for adjustment of status in the U.S. one must show he/she never violated non-immigrant status until the I485 was filed(since last entry).
If you file I140 while being on F1, that could be taken as "violation of non-immigrant" status. It is advisable to change to a dual intent visa before filing for I485. Such visas are H1 and L1.

my FP is done on 19th sep and got LUD on 485 on 20th sep and same day card production ordered.

NatrajS - I got my FP notice - its scheduled for 1st week of Sep.
Ivaka -I am sorry I dont know about checks cashing because we are doing through a company attorney - company pays for our GC expenses..
Dhirajs - There's no FP on my EAD, Is that a prob.?

USCIS had issued 60K visas(EAD) by in a month or so and I believe they cannot do FP if they issued those visas in months time. SO I don't think you have to worry about FP for now. If they need it they will get it from you sometime later in the process.
BTW, how it took for you get the EAD after your cheks were cashed?

Friends - this thread was mainly for a pat on the back to PK since he did such a fine job singing it.! IV had no malicious interest in singing the US OR NOT singing the Indian anthem at the rally..!! Our effort thru the rally is to show how we have adapted to this country (USA). There is no point in posing a hypothetical Q like if the US attacks ur mother country (sorry dressking..ur way out of line.!)..that ain't happening.! I am an Indian first and i will take that to the grave..!! We all walked the rally and were present there so that we could try and address the political system of this country reg. our plight.! I don't see any reason for this thread to be turned into a political one...whether how he sang it...what should have been done before or after PK sang it, etc...THE LARGER PICTURE is that IV has respected the US national anthem and has not disrespected the INDIAN national anthem.!! The RALLY surely had a positve impact (read all the news articles...no one commented about the anthem.!).. Again this is the first time that the rally has been conducted on this scale and YES we are learning on what can or cannot be done for the next one.!!

I don't think so. Atleast for E-filed applications, there are no instructions to send photo's. I did not send photos's last two times and had EAD approved.
You definitely need to send it even if you get BIOMETERICS

Approvals for Mid-may have started now. They are in that region. July cases would be Nov/Dec.

Thank you gemini123 for the quick reply. I'm in Texas and have to get it renewed in Houston. I was talking to a broker who would get it done in about 10 days as I'm planning to travel to India next month.
He asked me to send the original pasport along with the I-94. That didn't seem right to me.
Should we also send a I-485 receipt copy?
Also, I have a expired visa in my passport but my H-1B is valid till May 2008. I'm planning to travel to India through Amsterdam and use my approved AP for reentering US. Would I need a tranist visa if I'm just chaging planes at the airport? Thanks!

I believe this number does NOT include the applicants whose I-140 is approved, but are still waiting to file their I-485. I am sure there are few hundred thousand applicants in EB category who are waiting to file their I-485when their PD becomes current.
I tried looking at USCIS website to get a more thorough understanding of what they mean by EB, but was not successful.
